Ok, so I have had to tweak and adjust the stock and inlays, 2 steps forward, 3 steps back, but I am anticipating making the string, binding on the lath and applying a finish. I want to stay in the spirit of a medieval build, mostly 'cos I'm cheap, so:
Linen or flax for the string, any recommendations for string thickness - I usually use Barbour 18/4 for longbows?
What cord to use for the bindings, and, is the binding served with the same cord.
Separate binding for the stirrup or bind on with the lath?
Saddle, or no saddle on a wooden lath; is a leather pad between lath and stirrup sufficient as the lath is very high crowned.
What type of finish for the tiller, bearing in mind I want to apply acrylic decoration and should I seal the timber (apple wood) to prevent the paint bleeding into the wood?
I usually go to about 800 grit before applying a finish, with several wetting cycles to get rid of raised grain: is this ok?
Thanks for looking,
Andrew
