Hi-- working on my first crossbow-planing on using brass sideplates
Were they mounted with wood screws  on both sides or
bolts through the wood to the other side ??
            Thanks   Sydney

I used wood screws for attaching steel sideplates, worked well. No idea as to historical practice...what style of crossbow are you making?

Hi  15th C hunting crossbow--the steel parts  are cut with  plasma
which will save time--waiting for a prod
It will be a good winter project
         Thanks Sydney

The period lockplates I have seen are almost always riveted in place.  I always use screws, making it easy to assemble/disassemble at will. Geezer.
