Hello from Cold Lake Alberta, Canada. I am just in the planning stages of my very first build. Granted my creation is intended for the rather unprestigeous SCA combat field for my daughter. But I figure there is no reason that even then that crossbows need to look like modified rubber band guns from a country fair vendor. Prods may be light and some design aspects and materials not entirely period, but there is no reason the rest can't be done right. And who know where it will go from there 
(Yeah, I'm a bit of an obsessive personality, and would like a nice target crossbow for my own use, and there are so many intersting styles.)
