has anyone tried laminating or lashing two aluminum prods together into one prod? the prods i have are some jayhawk prods i recently picked up with enough other misc parts to make two crossbows.

    thanks

Dont use alluminium. It breaks easy after just a short bending. It works fine to be laminated with cheap foam used in the housebuilding sector. Strong and very light and fastens on most material inkluding alluminium. Tried it inside a stiff beam with great sucess.

I have heard of using laminated aluminum. There was some instructions somewhere on this site about how to do it. The gist of it was using quality Aluminum and riveting them down the center.

And don't worry there are lots and lots of Aluminum prods in use. I would recommend wrapping the Al prod in leather or raw hide to keep it together when it breaks.

i think i'm going to build one crossbow using one of the prods and keep the extra prod and parts for spares since they aren't too easily replaced. i planned on covering the prod in rawhide, then mounting it using the factory stud anchored in a hardwood dowel glued into the stock crossways, where a hole would normally be drilled to anchor bow irons.

i was also thinking of adding a pair of bow irons and a piece of channel iron for extra security. the channel iron would be mounted with the open side out, with a pin through it. for a spanning lever to make it safer and easier for me to use with my disability issues, stemming from too many accidents and being born with HMS. hoping to end up with a crossbow accurate enough to group under 3-4 inches at 20 yards or less.

    thanks
