Crossbow range in Austin? Empty Crossbow range in Austin?

    Post by jake-owa Thu Dec 02, 2010 11:03 am

Since I know a few of you are Austinites here I though I would throw this out and see if anyone has any ideas. I have called all the local archery ranges and none will allow crossbows. pale I don't mind just going out into the woods to test but I would love to have a nearby proper range to test at.

Until then it's just me and my tape measure and a lot of broken bolts. Embarassed

What are you using as a target? I found that a cardboard box filled with old rags or t-shirts works surprisingly well. The box doesn't last forever but it works.

Since I am new to this crossbow thing I guess I didn't realize how lucky I was to find a range that accepts crossbows.

I have about 8 large cardboard boxes that I folded 4 ways, taped together. 32 layers of heavy cardboard and the bolts still poke through sometimes. cyclops Shocked

in other news, I have been shooting some aluminum cylinder 3/8"X.035X10" bolts with target tips and spin vanes on them and whoa boy do they hit hard! I think I will try to go to 8" and see if they are still stable. I started at 12" but the drop was about 18" over 50' range. I am hoping the 8"ers drop less, fly faster and still hit hard.

...did I mention that this stuff is fun as heck? cheers
