Before I cover the wood prod I'm currently working on I would like to put 100 or so shots through it in case it fails. I don't really want to bind it to the stock only to untie it again so what do you suggest 're test rigs?

Years ago I needed to ship a crossbow to England, disassembled, with a custom-made yew prod.  I lashed it in tightly, but didn't cinch up the bridle on the sides as usual.  That kept it tight enough in the socket for a few test shots without the hardest part of the binding.  By the way, that yew prod shot beautifully: very fast and quiet, with very little recoil.  Then I took it apart and shipped to England.  The customer was happy.  Geezer.

Thanks Geezer, that looks like a good way forward.
