Hey guys, there has been some talk in the underground about our forum having contests, meet-ups, setting up an online store with kits and supplies, and even offering free supplies to support the buildalong guys.

It's a long shot and is only in it's planing phase, but I think it has some potential a might boost the community to new levels. Only question is - What would you like see on it?

Again, unfortunately none of this is even close to happening, but I thought I'd throw the ideas your way and perhaps we can get some ideas pushing towards making it reality.

Personally, I'm not so interested in the financial side of it (I already have a donkey I'm fighting with business wise tongue ), as I am interested in the possibilities this will spawn for our community. I remember forums like ours having little fun events...I like that stuff and would like to bring back that spirit. Very Happy

Though I admit, I'm a busy guy and can't always wrap my head around everything that's going on at one time...but I really try to participate as much as I can and help the community grow. Luckily, with the community growing I've got to know many of you and you have gained my utmost attention drunken , so I think with minds all put together we can power through this project together and give our "tribe" a little push, haha! Can you imagine if we would do everything we could do? 524936

All I would like to hear is what you guys want/need/look forward to in this community. I'm talking about "fun", it's the greatest thing to have, so why not have some? Let me know about the things you want to see this community do..."start small - dream big" Very Happy

Over at Primitive Archer, they have a bow of the month contest, but not sure that kind of thing is applicable to what we do, the length of time it takes to build a crossbow, or the number of member of this forum.

Meetups might be cool. We are scattered all over the world, but some of us probably live within driving distance of others. I put on a major stone age skills event each second Saturday of October, and had over 200 come last year. The primary focus is the atlatl and dart, bolas, primitive archery, and general skills such as traps and friction fire making. This year, we are finishing an outdoor archery range, and I am thinking of adding a medieval archery and crossbow event. Anyone on this forum is of course very welcome to come and play. It is a free event, with plenty of parking and three indoor restrooms Smile

That sounds fantastic, a chance to hang with the trad archery crowd would be awesome. That's actually something of a goal to me, to bring the two groups together.

    You say you're in LA?

We can put it on the calendar of events, so it'll pop up when it's on. Smile

Anything else guys? C'mon, Roll in the Cannons!!! bom What's happening with the flight shoots? Where is the ballista crowd? What's the calendar for SCA events?

I live in Western Massachusetts. I grew up in LA, though.

I'll send you detailed info on the stone age event a bit later, thanks for the offer, Ivo.

    Very Happy

Oh, almost forgot...I do plan on having contests on here with prizes and all that good stuff...and I might be able to remedy the bit with the build time. Wink Abo is testing my trigger right now and I'm talking with Basilisk about finding a small machining company that would be willing to work with us to make some parts...perhaps some historically correct set triggers and such to get some sweet builds rolling. As I mentioned I want to throw out everything from single parts to full U-Finish kits into the community to get things rolling.

Right now I got materials ready for a dupli-carver similar to this little guy...

So the U-Finish bows are happening eventually. Can't wait to carve some 18th crossbow blanks and trigger kits for you guys. drunken

Did someone say Halo...I swear I heard someone say it. Shocked Laughing

Anyway...Should speed somethings up, no? Laughing Can you imagine if we would do everything we could do? 524936 ...but first gotta finish some stuff I promised earlier to some guys on here.

I'll try to get the topic up today...that's one project that is an opponent battle with who is worth a thousand before him.
