Tactical Polymer Pistol Empty Tactical Polymer Pistol

Post by hullutiedemies Wed Apr 30, 2014 1:40 pm

I promised a product family , so here is something for spring collection.

    A small pistol crossbow.

This time we are exploring polymers
    Tactical Polymer Pistol J_tact_1
Seen here fully operational, but unfinished,
this tactical unit is of polymer construction.

Tiller and bolt track have laminated biological matrix of picea abies composition covered in polyvinyl-polyester polymer monocockue.
( that is pieces of fir + polyester filter cloth saturated with PVAc glue )
    Tactical Polymer Pistol J_tact_2
Bolt track is cast from polysaccharide-vinyl polymer. Same material is used to underside sliding surface.
potato flour mixed with PVAc wood glue

Close up of tactical top trigger cocked
    Tactical Polymer Pistol J_tact_3

Tactical energy capacitors are Syringa vulgaris backed with biological filaments embedded in proteine and polymer matrix.
hemp + PVAc glue forward, sisal + grocery gelatine rear

Pulling about 600N / 122mm (130#/5") - weight measured from handle peaks at 25 lbs , so it could be made 2-3 times heavier still.

It sticks blunt bolt to pine board from 20m
    Tactical Polymer Pistol J_tact_nuoli
And it is accurate enough to hit 5 inch wide board consistently from that distance.

I love the design!  But somehow "polymer" and "Nerd Flintstone" just don't seem to want to go together in my head!!! scratch

    Update for this tactical solution.
A cord loop locks the lever down for one handed tactical hold.

    Tactical Polymer Pistol J_tact_6
Stealth-leopard camoflage and low visibility shark mouth cross that fine line between tactastic and just plain tacky.

I guess I have been spending too much time browsing tactical social media of survivalist forum and youtube gun reviews . Getting infected with polymer structured tactical solutions. Might still add piccatinny rails and folding bipod to that thing Wink

On a more serious note I need to built a new one with more carefully tought out user interface ergonomics.
All mechanical parts work fine, but aiming is a bit awkward.

Polymer sounds very modern and synthetic. But you know, your avatar crossbow has a polysaccharide polymer tiller Wink
A common trade brand of polysaccharide polymer is "Timber".

Medieval crossbows had strings and tillers of polysaccharide polymer and ferrite alloy or proteine polymer energy capacitators. And they were used in solar orbit - space age polymer technology! Very Happy

I knew an old architect many years ago,he used to laugh at the young architects, for using the term'vertical access node'...............it amused him that they could'nt,or would'nt say 'staircase'
