Crossbows are a new interest of mine and I'm at that extreme- curiosity stage, about a subject I as yet know very little.
My main crossbow interest is historical and medieval/renaissance weapons - not surprising since my main shooting interest is the english warbow and longbow. I do enjoy air-rifle shooting and noticed the discipline of match crossbow that seems very similar - shot at 10m and 30m. It seems to be popular in continental Europe, particularly in Switzerland. In this country, the UK, it is administered by the National Smallbore Rifle Association.
I was initially amazed at an archery sport shot at only 10m! I would ask does anyone here know about the tech spec of the bows used? I am just looking to expand my knowledge...and can't find much detailed info despite much searching the net.
The 10m bows look to be very thin and probably very light, but the 30m bows look meatier and are apparently spanned with a goat's-foot - so are quite heavy? It looks like the power stroke is extemely short, presumably to keep movement and vibration down to a minimum for optimum accuracy. I figure the velocity must be quite high though as the all-metal bolt is unfletched.
If anyone could satisfy my curiosity here I would be most grateful
