You have the marks of a true craftsman. Your attention to detail is very good. What do you have in line of metal working tools?

Re: My build so far
Wow that ms very much c. I have a propane forge i built two years ago,. Oxy/ cet torch, a chop saw,an angle grinder, a vice and some files and a drill press. The bow irons took an incredible amount of time to make. Im a farmer so i have a decent shop for fixing our machines. This week i get to help out at the county fair blacksmithing stand, which is awesome bc i will finally get to see a real smith forge in person

Well ,you don't have to take a back seat to anyone. You'll be having a great time. I used to roundeau with the mountain men . You had to have every thing 1840 and before. You learned smithing , woodworking, tanning and the list goes on. You'll be busy having a grand time. Can't miss.

My friend , You are young and have to butter bread. I'm kinda sliding down the hill myself. I need projects like this to keep me on track. Never retire , just maybe slow down . Someone that thinks you could never hunt or fish toooo much , never tried it. It's just no fun by yourself. Everyone else is still working.

Re: My build so far
Very nice work. Looks like you've reinforced the rolling nut socket with steel?
This past weekend I was at Mount Vernon and spent quite a bit of time at the blacksmith shop, watching and dreaming dreamy little dreams about setting up my own forge someday. Keep us posted on your progress!

Gnome , speaking about the forge, have you ever checked out the brake drum forge . They are great for small jobs, and will work larger stuff if, you use your head.

Re: My build so far
I had to respond to this. First Army, your work looks great. It'll be nice to see it assembled. I think you are about a couple weeks ahead of me - anyway I hope it won't take me much longer to do the tiller, etc., except I'm going the "easy" way in that I will build this first one as a Skane bow, mainly as I have no forging experience/tools.
And Sitas, I, too, was a mountain man and made my own outfit. If I remember right the club was called "Sleepy Hollow" near Milwaukee, WI. One of the most enjoyable experiences of my life - especially winter camping with all my gear - wake up in the morning and get the coffee going fast; them were shining times, pilgrim.

Goodric, You remember right . I shot there many times. It was one of the best shoots. Great turn out ,and always lots of prizes. Your right here to , "the hair of the bear" in mid January was cool in a teepee.

Re: My build so far
Thanks gents
It is reinforced with metal. Heck this whole project has been metal work!
But i like knowing it will never wear out the tiller .
Stain is on and dry. Off to burnish with steel wool and start laying in lmf gunstock sealer!

Re: My build so far
Thanks! Yeah i felled a hickory and made the bow. I shot her the next year with it about 200 yards from where i cut the bow tree down. Pretty fun. The quiver is a coon i trapped a few years back itd served me well
