    I'm looking for a medieval type crossbow that is fairly heavy in draw weight, so that I could possibly use it for hunting. Ideally I would like a kit, as I enjoy building things, but I can't find anything while searching the web. I want something traditional. Has anyone tried the crossbows from The Medeival Crossbow Shop?

    You mean the outfit in the Seychelles?  That's the only Medieval Crossbow Shop that I know of by that name. Interesting wares, but shipping would be "not good" to the States.  

    If I were going to buy a crossbow "unfinished", I make a deal with New World Arbalist -- known here as Geezer, and ask him to just tie the prod onto an unfinished, unassembled tiller with the lock mortise cut but not installed.  I might save $20... 

    Most folk here mostly build their own -- parts (prods) are available, "medieval" push-pin locks are simple to make (so are roller nut locks using Delrin for the nut), medieval tiller designs are easily found. You don't need a huge workshop to build in, or a massive collection of tools.
