I have nearly finished a 15th century style crossbow with bone bolt table. I have cut a slot for a sliding bolt rest. I have always used bone for the rest but now I'm wondering if I should use antler, any thoughts?

Re: Bolt rest
I have always used antler, but a good, hard piece of bone should work very well. Geezer.

Re: Bolt rest
That might be why my bolt rests have alwsys been a bit slippy, hard bone on hard bone, low friction surface. I've lost 2 now. Will switch to antler and pin it in place. Antler should be less damaging to the fletching wraps too.
