    Hey there ! It's been a long time !

    I want to build a new crossbow (surprise !!) with a wood prod and I was wondering.

    I have a nice board made of IPE with a straight grain (it's 0,75 inch thick). It's gonna be 2 inches large at the center and about 32 inches notch to notch. Would it be better to back it with a 1/8 inch thick hickory piece AND sinew or just the sinew (about 0,25 thick) is enough ?

    Sinew alone would be just fine.  I suspect that 1/4" of sinew is at least 2x overkill.  Asian wood-horn-sinew composite bows don't have that much!  Be sure you de-grease the Ipe before attempting to add sinew.

    Either the sinew or the hickory is good, for sinew, I think the rule of thumb is about 30% of the weight of the finished bow?
