    First topic message reminder :

Hi everyone, thought I'd post my crossbow build updates here. Plan is for an ash-lath and pin-lock medieval-ish target crossbow

You're both correct, those are outstanding bow woods, neither of which I can easily get. I do have a small stock of yew but the target draw weight is too low for yew and this apple will make a stunning lath, a litle reflex and a bit of twist to heat out but it should be really sweet.

The ash was heat-tempered but it does not like a round belly and I just pushed it too far

Well  I broke 1 ash and 2 apple laths before I got this yew lath fitted . Its shorter than the others and I set the draw weight as whatever I could span using the step-on technique- 28lb.   Its a really fun shooter, I spent a few good sessions shooting at a towel 15m across my garden.ash lath and pin-lock crossbow - Page 3 20200811_1909292654310726607589559ash lath and pin-lock crossbow - Page 3 20200811_1911372997275913546499430ash lath and pin-lock crossbow - Page 3 20200811_1910457833482257194017415

Still not been able to deliver the crossbow but now c19 regs have reduced a little I took it to show off to my Dad.  Its such a smooth shooting little thing he was really unimpressed,  only comment was it really was underwhelming,  right up til my (20 year old) son pulled a shot and put a hole in his shed 30 yards away. That made him sit up a bit!
